An’ given all that’s been said’ bout her singin’ pickin’ and showmanship–

Those are his prototypes. Probably made between 51 and 53. I have seen these two guitars in a few photos with Les, but I dont think Gibson ever made production Les Pauls in the 50s with the jacks on the front. Les might of rerouted the jacks to make them more akin to his archtops.

This is a fantastic clip! Mary Ford never received the recognition she deserved as being an excellent guitarist.

What year is this? Those are some crazy Gibson guitars that they are playing. The plug going into the top and not in the side. Hers has some crazy looking huge bridge pickup it seems. Wonder what the story was with these guitars and where they are now.

FFSstudios March 7, 2010 at 7:53 am

creating harmonics, can you hear the different type of sound coming from the strings? :)

YOUDUDE56 March 7, 2010 at 8:48 am

LES PAUL!

knoodle90 March 7, 2010 at 9:35 am

It’s an harmonic, you get when you let your finger float just above the snare on the 12th 7th our 5th position and pinch the snare.
it’s an natural harmonic. nowadays it’s mainly used in metal and shredding.

DrCruel March 7, 2010 at 10:58 am

Some say he had some skill at guitar pluckin’. Can’t speak to it, but anyone who can land a wife like that has my full respect.

Go slow, Great One.

0jimihendrix0 March 7, 2010 at 11:46 am

So sad les died.

lonerocker08 March 7, 2010 at 12:08 pm

all you do is put your finger on the strings but dont press down. just lay your finger tip on the string and then pluck it mainly on the 12th, 5th and 7th frets. i believe its called a artificial harmonic..or a natural harmonic (i dont remember)

dejiita March 7, 2010 at 12:50 pm

I don’t get what they’re doing when they’re tapping the fretboard. Like overhead.

ChumpJoe March 7, 2010 at 2:21 pm

Who’s better?
