Simon & Garfunkel Cover–”Poem on the Underground Wall”

by on 2012/06/27

Lyrics: The last train is nearly due, The underground is closing soon, And in the dark deserted station, Restless in anticipation, A man waits in the shadows. His restless eyes leap and scratch, At all that they can touch or catch, And hidden deep within his pocket, Safe within its silent socket, He holds a colored crayon. Now from the tunnels stony womb, The carriage rides to meet the groom, And opens wide and welcome doors, But he hesitates, then withdraws Deeper in the shadows. And the train is gone suddenly On wheels clicking silently Like a gently tapping litany, And he holds his crayon rosary Tighter in his hand. Now from his pocket quick he flashes, The crayon on the wall he slashes, Deep upon the advertising, A single worded poem comprised Of four letters. And his heart is laughing, screaming, pounding The poem across the tracks rebounding Shadowed by the exit light His legs take their ascending flight To seek the breast of darkness and be suckled by the night.

Great.. Let me know if you do as I’d like to hear it.

Thank you for your comment! It’s a bit of a long shot, but maybe I could get another video done of this sometime this spring.

I was a bit confused listening to this. You’ve quite clearly got ability finger picking but play it way to fast. I think the reason your voice sounds a little ropy is again because you’re singing too fast. Slow it all down, way down, and it will sound much better. I hope you don’t mind me saying all of this, but I value and encourage positive criticism as it helps us improve. It’s been a few years since you posted this and it would be interesting to here how you sing and play it now.

Get singing lessons, I’m serious you could be really good.

idiot

I just signed up for youtube to tell you this. The speed is fine. The playing is wonderful! The liberties taken on the notes in the bridge aren’t wonderful, but they’re okay. You are just hesitating vocally. Listen to the original again.

DeBaimbo November 13, 2010 at 1:07 am

you play it very well, just slow it down to its natural speed

Muffay November 13, 2010 at 1:22 am

You’re right man ;)
The bad thumb on the right isn’t suitable…

AcousticoV November 13, 2010 at 1:23 am

Ha ha ha ha!

XenoSlayer November 13, 2010 at 1:43 am

The key word in the title to this video is “cover”. He’s not freaking simon or garfunkle. He doesn’t have to play it exactly right. Post your own video if you think this one sucks so bad.

XenoSlayer November 13, 2010 at 2:19 am

Well, I am qualified to criticize it and I must say it sounded wonderful. Shut yer pie hole.

magneticshitbrick November 13, 2010 at 2:45 am

The notes you are singing are wrong.Listen to yourself singing in this video, and practice until you get it right.
Don’t put videos of yourself singing up unless you’ve sung every note perfectly, it doesn’t have to be one take.

rutgermsc November 13, 2010 at 3:13 am

OK, good guitar work! But… take… some… rest… It’s not a formula 1 race. :)

p0nette November 13, 2010 at 3:47 am

OMG this is jaw-dropping guitar skills. wow.

randigslips November 13, 2010 at 4:10 am

whish i could do that… wonderful guitar, and god song too :D

redhakl November 13, 2010 at 4:12 am

You play good guitar man. I am working on this song since months and I am still playing it so slow. Hope I can once play it like you. It’s specially hard for me to swap from the melody to the strum squence! Well done

pahanssen November 13, 2010 at 4:43 am

Awful voice. Sorry man. As for the guitar part, I’m not really qualified to criticize, all I know is, it sounds better when Paul Simon plays it. Timing was good though.

acousticbrothers November 13, 2010 at 5:17 am

I appreciate your critique. I disagree with you about lyrics, however. They should be clearly pronounced so listeners can understand what you’re singing. However, I’d be glad to watch the demonstration video you make to show me how to do it correctly. :-)

SilverandSilent111 November 13, 2010 at 6:13 am

:| I’d try to not sing with a Kuntuckey accent. . . You did not justice to this song. At all. That was horrible. Simon and Garkfunkel are MUCH better. And for a tip, when you’re singing the song, please don’t clearly pronounced every word sung. . . please.

yojscrog November 13, 2010 at 6:18 am

its a simon and garfunkel song…not just paul simon.

rader1977 November 13, 2010 at 7:17 am

…”comprised of four letters” Those letters spell “mike”. You need to invest in a microphone! You play awesome and sing well. Do the song justice and buy a decent microphone. MORE PAUL SIMON SONGS!!!
