Something For The Playaz

by on 2010/03/10

I thought it would be cool to share a bit of what I've been putting together on the guitar lately... My guitar teacher lingo is terrible, so I'm sorry if you know the word I go for before I do... ("position" up and down the neck is what I was searching for)... I've been listening to a lot more of the earlier blues players lately and I'm digging a more "stately" approach to soloing.

@clim3 yeah it’s probably required as somewhat of a “core” class i suppose. i would lovee to go to berklee.

clim3 March 10, 2010 at 7:01 pm

I’m sure they have standards to get in though. And I heard he took lessons.

punkdude543 March 10, 2010 at 7:32 pm

@clim3 he was at berklee for about 6 months and i think he really only took songwriting classes.

confidenceispower March 10, 2010 at 8:03 pm

clim3 March 10, 2010 at 8:16 pm

enacra101 March 10, 2010 at 10:54 pm

@MrRangel1983 oh dear =O lmao

TheCro187 March 10, 2010 at 11:40 pm

He goes to D Pentatonic. Since when playing a typical blues chord progression is I-IV-V. The IV Chord of A Minor Pentatonic is D you can go to D Minor Pentatonic and play there for a little bit until the progression moves back to the I or goes to the V. There’s some notes that you can’t hit when moving to the IV pentatonic because they sound odd.

seanSHRED87 March 11, 2010 at 12:21 am

Dude your cool

yeahright123go March 11, 2010 at 1:16 am

he kinda knows cuz he went to berkle a year or soband he hasbeen putting togheter as much as he can. I mean playing with pino and steve and he also jammed with john scofield that dude could have tought him a lot.

MrRangel1983 March 11, 2010 at 2:11 am

Thats gangster shit right there. John Mayer is so gangster that when I listen to his music I do drive-by shootings…..on little kids.

C0NEZ0NE March 11, 2010 at 2:18 am

@DocSixString He did go to Berklee Music college for a semester I think. I’m pretty sure he knows his music theory.

kamer335 March 11, 2010 at 2:36 am

Thanks – JM you are a great great player, I love it! I have one tip for you -> “the best kept secret in the world of AMP’s is the Dutch Mr Van Weelden – check out his Twinkleland amp when you are in the netherlands” – you will not regret it ;-)
